An opportunity has arisen for a 9 month locum registrar post in dermatology as a consequence of maternity leave. The post is in Wrexham Maelor Hospital, which is a large district general hospital in the market town of Wrexham situated in the beautiful region of North Wales and close to the beautiful city of Chester.

 

The post encompasses all the clinical and educational opportunities of the vacant specialist registrar post. There will be three clinics per week, review of sub acute cases, and one skin biopsy list. There is a weekly grand round teaching session, which is held once per month in North Wales, once per month in Clatterbridge Hospital on the Wirral and twice per month in Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool. There is also a combined clinic for complex cases once per month in North Wales. Duties will also include assessment of acute dermatology cases either on the wards or referred by GPs. The post has no on-call commitment beyond 5.00 pm. The post also encompasses educational ward rounds and weekly teaching on dermatopathology. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in audit projects and the writing of case reports or journal review articles.  

 

The department comprises three Consultants, an Associate Specialist, a team of four specialist nurses, two Registrars, a SHO and a number of Speciality Doctors.  

 

The post holder will also attend local and specialist skin cancer multidisciplinary meetings.

 

Overall this is an excellent opportunity for a doctor wishing for an excellent introduction to speciality of dermatology, to work within a busy, friendly department. The post holder will gain excellent clinical exposure under supervision.   Although this post is not recognised for training it offers excellent educational opportunities as a prelude to obtaining a substantive specialist registrar post.
