CONSULTANT in Substance Misuse Psychiatry
Full time (10 Sessions)

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board currently operates an integrated model of Substance Misuse Services (SMS) joining Primary and Secondary care across six counties.

An opportunity for a third consultant to complement this service has arisen.

BCUHB currently delivers services described as Tier 2, 3 and 4, within the Welsh Assembly Substance Misuse Treatment Frameworks. The post will provide specific treatment, governance and mentorship to community drug and alcohol teams and specific teams of GPs with a special interest in substance misuse. The post will have admission rights to Hafan Wen Inpatient Detoxification Unit currently provided by CAIS.

The post will cover the county of Flintshire, with a total population of 153,000, as well as providing SMS input to the Berwyn Prison and clinical input to the SMS liaison team in the local district general hospital. There will also be cross cover arrangements in place for annual leave.

Flintshire is a maritime Shire which lies along the estuary of the river Dee and the coast of the Irish Sea. Flintshire is a heavily developed area for both industry and tourism. Wrexham is a major centre of the region’s commercial, retail and educational infrastructure with the town at the heart of several urban villages.

You are required to be on the Specialist Register, have CCT or recognised equivalent, or be within 6 months of obtaining it at the time of interview.

The successful candidates will be appointed to the amended Welsh Consultant Contract.
